In the heart of Budapest stands a structure called the Timewheel. Built of granite, steel and glass granules, it’s the world’s largest hourglass. Every year, the granules flow from the upper to the lower chamber – the last few passing through at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Then it is turned so that the whole process can begin again.
